South Texas Seashells 5x7 Print
Every day I go down to the water and look at shells washed up on the shore. Sometimes I pick up a few and bring them home. I put them on my bedside table, creating a little altar to the lives that once were & the beauty left behind.
Shells remind me of dilapidated buildings, the former homes of mollusks and crustaceans. They are a perfect representation of the cycles we see in life; birth, life, death. They remind me that nothing is permanent, and there can be great beauty in letting go.
As I made this field guide, I learned about each of the shellfish who once inhabited the shell and what the shell left behind was called. Each shell has a letter next to it to help identify its common name.
I hope the beauty of the shells would help people remember & also help them release what they are holding on to.
